Almost two years ago, I made the decision to quit making excuses about what I was putting into my body and actually start doing the things I knew would be better. Charles put together a template for me, outlining what I should be eating and when. Measuring and keeping track of my food was a completely different thing for me. I had been used to “eyeballing” everything. Consequently, I knew very little about (or could easily deny) what was actually entering my body on a regular basis. My body was not consistently getting the fuel it needed to function properly. The change, although challenging at first, has become a way of life now. I feel healthier, have more energy, recover better and sleep more soundly. As scary as it was to acknowledge where I needed help and to accept the accountability that came with it, I would never want to go back to how I was living before. I only wish I had not waited so long to start.

I started at Altius in the first Women’s Only class (yes, you read that correctly, Women Only) and let me tell you walking through these doors was one of the best decisions of my life. The transition to regular class after the Women’s 6-week course could not have been any better. These members will take you in like they have known you your whole life – they will stand beside both inside and outside the gym walls. The coaches will scale or modify any workout – so do not worry about your skill level. I have also had success from the Nutrition part of Altius. Your coach will help develop a meal plan and it is extremely easy to stick to it. If you are ready to change your life for the best – Altius Fitness & Nutrition is where you need to be!!!

When my husband asked me to sign up for a CrossFit fundamentals class I laughed, you’re kidding, right? When I was done laughing I said absolutely not. My husband grew up weight lifting and playing sports, I am the most uncoordinated person who ever lived. I was in decent shape, an avid yogi, but my husband wanted to lose weight and get into better shape. Ultimately he talked me into it, I wanted to be supportive and get into better shape. We were so impressed with the coaching staff during our 6 week fundamentals class and since then we haven’t looked back.That was over 2 & 1/2 years ago and we are lucky to belong to the best gym, with the best coaches and an awesome fit family. I can’t say I have mastered every movement, but the constant challenge of getting better is what motivates and the little victories with the coaches and fit fam cheering you on is all the encouragement you need. My husband also decided to work on his nutrition with the help of the coaches and has lost 30 lbs. Being a part of Altius Fitness & Nutrition means being challenged and supported by a group of people that need the same from you, we make each other better.

My journey at Altius Fitness starts on the coattails of my husband’s. I was working out at a globo gym and had trouble staying motivated and consistent with my workouts. He convinced me to join in on one community holiday workout and I was hooked! The community at Altius Fitness cannot be matched. I have spent the last three years working out surrounded by a group of people that challenge and encourage me to be better both as an athlete and as a person. Our members have become like a second family to us, and the box is our sanctuary where we can cope with stress and loss, have challenging conversations, get in some good laughs, and look ridiculous while we attempt new gymnastics movements :) The owners and coaching staff at AF are truly invested in our success. They will get to know your personal goals, will help you work to achieve them, and then will empower you to step outside of your comfort zone to surpass them. Altius Fitness has taught me that there is always room to improve, and that it IS okay for women to have muscles :)

I love Altius Fitness and Nutrition. I love the weights, the running and the people who make up this fantastic group. Working out is my time to leave work and family behind for a little while and focus on becoming a better me. The coaches and members are always helpful and cheer me on until that final rep is counted. Some days, that extra, “You got this, Thin Lizzy.” is what you need.  I love Altius so much, that my daughter now goes with me. It helps her strength and conditioning for track and soccer.


It’s true that Altius is more than a “gym” or a “box” it is the people who make it a community. I am grateful for all the support they have given me in my journey to become the best version I can be.

I cannot say enough about the community at Crossfit Altius. Starting with leadership from the coaches, to all the gym members, the fun, encouraging, and genuinely supportive environment is second to none. No matter your level of fitness, you will find yourself welcomed and challenged. Crossfit can certainly be intimidating. At Altius, the members good-naturedly egging each other on but there are no bros trying to show you up or look down on you for whatever reason. All levels of fitness are represented and cheered. The community is what will keep you going through the worst of workouts and I’ve certainly gained a lot in terms of fitness, friendship, and well being.
